WARSAW EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY

The Warsaw Area Career Center is excited to introduce the Warsaw Early Learning Academy to you, along with the staff members that will be caring for these children. This program was implemented to help support Warsaw Community School staff members & their families. The WELA currently has over 20 students with ages ranging from infants through 5 years old.

Lynette Hawn, Warsaw Early Learning Academy Director

Lynette Hawn, Warsaw Early Learning Academy Director

Lynette is in charge of overseeing the childcare program here at Warsaw Community Schools and works directly with the students, as well as supervising the staff. She is responsible for the daily organization of the program and whatever else each day may bring. She is also the lead teacher in the Toddler Room.

Lynette attended Purdue University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development & Family Studies.

She’s been married for over 28 years to Joe Hawn (Officer Hawn). They have 3 children; Meghan, Nicholas, and Jacob. They also have 2 dogs; Maggie, a Golden Retriever, and Max a chocolate lab. Lynette has lived in Warsaw/Winona Lake for over 28 years but grew up in Fort Wayne. She is the oldest of 4 children and her family attends Walnut Creek United Methodist Church.

In her spare time, Lynette loves to bake, go for walks, read, and watch movies with her family.

When asked about her favorite things, Lynette says:

I LOVE Mexican food!! I could eat it every day if my family would agree to it. My favorite color is yellow. My favorite flower is a sunflower. My husband and I have been chaperoning youth mission trips for 25 years at our church Walnut Creek UMC. I am a Harry Potter fan!! Love the books and movies. My favorite band is Third Day and lead singer Mac Powell. I have seen them in concert 20 times. 

Erin Schramm, Assistant Director: Infant/Toddler

Erin Schramm, Assistant Director: Infant/Toddler

Erin is in charge of taking care of all the daily needs of our youngest Tigers in the infant room. She enjoys having the opportunity to serve our staff & their families in this role.

Erin grew up here in Warsaw, attended Grace College in Winona Lake, and has 3 brothers. She has been married to her husband Drew since 2017.

Some of her favorites include the color blue, meal: meatloaf, mac & cheese, and green bean casserole, and dessert: brownies or chocolate chip cookies. An interesting fact about Erin is that she has a twin brother, Ethan.

During her free time, she loves to play tennis, ultimate frisbee, bike riding, going for walks, and spending time with family & friends.

Cierra Potts: Mobile Infant Teacher

Cierra Potts: Mobile Infant Teacher

Cierra is in charge of taking care of the older infants that are on the move.

She attended Indiana State University.

During her free time, she loves anything that involves nature: hiking, trying out new trails, kayaking, & boating. She also loves spending time with her two nieces.

Cierra loves became an infant teacher because she loves feeling like she is making a positive impact. Her favorite part about this job is watching the babies hit milestones and grow. 

Amy Weaver: Preschool Teacher

Amy is in charge of caring for and developing the curriculum/daily activities for our oldest WELA students.

She has an Associate’s degree and attended college twice for careers in the medical field as a respiratory therapist and a medical assistant.

Children have always been her passion so she decided to follow her dream of working with kids, which brought her to WELA.

Amy grew up in Nappanee but moved away from IN for 27 yrs. She finally married the love of her life, Dennis, in April of 2017 after being apart for over 20 yrs. They have two sons, Zeb and Kyler, who are both in college. They live on 5 acres and currently have nine dogs: Lexy, Jasper, Blaze, and Lucy that are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Lilly a German Shepard, Hunter a Golden Retriever and three Cavalier puppies that are four weeks old.

In her spare time, she likes to go for walks, swim, play with her dogs, be on their boat, go fishing and spend time on their lakefront property in the UP, Michigan.

Here are a few of Amy’s favorite things:

-My favorite colors are pink and black.

-I love Mexican food.

-My favorite flower is a rose.

-I love spending time with family.

-My favorite vacation place is Walt Disney World...I have been there over 28 times since 1993.

Julie Howard: WELA Assistant Teacher

Julie Howard: WELA Assistant Teacher

Julie helps care for the Preschool-aged children at WELA.

She attended Ivy Tech Community College.

During her free time, she loves to go swimming, color, spend time with family, and write.

When asked about her favorite things, Julie says:

I love Disney & my favorite Disney character is Winnie the Pooh

My favorite food: Pasta, Color: pink and purple, Game: Apples to Apples, Animal: dogs and turtles, NFL teams: Vikings and Seahawks

An interesting fact is that I got married on what is known as Star Wars day- "May the 4th be with you" I also want to write a children’s book one day

Julie loves being able to interact with the children in this classroom and to see their smiling faces each day.
