Warsaw Community Schools is proud to announce the selection of Ben Barkey as the Director and Principal of Warsaw Area Career Center (WACC), beginning on July 1, 2022. Barkey follows Ronna Kawsky, who taught at WCHS since 1998 and became the Director and Principal of WACC in 2010. Kawsky will retire at the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year and Warsaw Community Schools would like to thank her for her years of outstanding service.
Barkey graduated from Manchester College with a bachelor’s degree in biology and an education endorsement. He continued his education at Ball State University where he earned his Master of Arts in Education degree in the field of educational administration and supervision. In addition to his degrees, Barkey obtained an Indiana Administrative License in administration and supervision, K-12. In May 2022, Ben Barkey will complete his Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration: Superintendent License.
Ben Barkey's experience at Warsaw Schools began in 2002 at Edgewood Middle School teaching science, science plus, and pre-algebra. In 2012, Barkey was selected to serve as the STEM instructional coach at Washington STEM Academy. In 2016, Barkey took on the position of Assistant Principal at Warsaw Community High School. In 2017, Barkey became the principal for Madison Elementary School.
Ben Barkey thanked the selection committee and offered, “I've been blessed to work for Warsaw Community School in multiple capacities throughout my career in education. I have cherished each role and have worked with outstanding leaders, teachers, students, and parents. I am excited about this next opportunity and I will continue to work hard to support the mission, the students, and the staff as I serve as the Director of the Warsaw Area Career Center."
Dr. David Hoffert, Superintendent for Warsaw Community Schools, congratulated Barkey and added, “We are very excited to welcome Mr. Barkey into his new role at the Warsaw Area Career Center. Mr. Barkey has excelled during his career with Warsaw Community Schools. His strong background in the areas of education, industry, community partnerships, and administration will enable him to immediately hit the ground running."
