Group of students with certificates in front of a KWI sign

This past Saturday, April 23, nine welding students represented the  WACC at the 3rd annual Senior Welding Contest hosted by the Kentucky Welding Institute. This contest is set up like a weld test they would experience in the real world. The students were given 90 minutes to complete two different weldments in the horizontal and vertical position. Once completed the pieces would be inspected by American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspectors. If they passed the visual test they would be sent to the bend test machine and stressed to 130% of the original size.

Students who attended where Anthony Taylor, Cadence Gibson, Layton Cooper, Daxton Prater, Carter Hall, Kyler Denney, Jae Winegardner, Brenton Lamb and Ashton Irwin (Tippecanoe Valley HS).

This year the WACC had a student place in the top 10!

Anthony Taylor finished in 4th place. There were 135 students from 14 states at this contest!

After a possible state FFA officer position Anthony will attend KWI. His $5,500 scholarship will come in very handy! A huge congratulations goes out to not only Anthony but the eight students as well!
