Mrs Love

WARSAW, IN - Warsaw Community High School (WCHS) is proud to celebrate biomedical science teacher Rosemary Love, who has been named the 2025 Battey National Educator of the Year by the Honor Scholar Program at DePauw University.

Since 2007, this national award has recognized one outstanding secondary educator each year who inspired a current DePauw Honor Scholar and helped shape their academic journey. Love was nominated by WCHS alumnus and DePauw student Jacob Kissling (Class of 2025), who credited her rigorous yet supportive teaching style for equipping him with the skills needed to thrive in college.

“As I work to balance multiple thesis projects, extracurriculars, and being a student-athlete, I use the skills I gained in her class every day,” Kissling shared. “Even though it was frustrating at the time, I now see how her high expectations helped shape my success in college.”

Love has taught at WCHS for 25 years and has spent the last 15 developing a hands-on, project-based biomedical program that gives students exposure to careers in the medical and health sciences. She says one of the most rewarding parts of her job is hearing from former students who have gone on to thrive in college and in their careers.

“Helping students succeed when they didn’t think they had it in them is incredibly gratifying,” said Love. “Project-based learning allows me to guide students in discovering their own understanding, instead of simply delivering information.”

In addition to the Battey Award, Love has received several other honors, including:

WCHS Golden Apple Award (2023, 2024)

DEKKO Award for Teaching Excellence (2003)

Indiana Academic All-Stars Certificate of Merit (2017)

WCHS Top Ten Teachers (2009–2010, 2011–2012, 2014–2015)

Warsaw Community Foundation “Honor an Educator” Awards (2012, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2023, 2024)

“Mrs. Love has repeatedly demonstrated the value she brings to our students and staff,” said WCHS Principal Troy Akers. “She humbly exhibits the highest character, drive, and determination.”

Love received the award during a recognition dinner held at DePauw University on May 1. The honor includes a cash prize for both Love and Warsaw Community High School.

Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Love on this well-deserved national recognition!
