The theme for the reading program was "Pete the Cat Reading is Groovy!!" Each child was given a book on Monday to take home and read with their family. They then recorded the number of minutes they read together each night on Pete the Cat's shoes. They returned the shoes to school and the teachers recorded the number of minutes read. Ms. Dinse boosted the morale for her students by having class pumpkins for the students to sign & decorate.
Advanced Life Science: Animals (dual college credit, science credit)- In Mr. Riley's Advanced Life Science: Animals class, they are studying the respiratory system of mammals and its interaction with the heart and circulatory system. Students were able to dissect a sheep pluck, which includes the heart, aorta, lungs, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and diaphragm, to discover lung function and how oxygen is brought into the animal body and how carbon dioxide is removed. This investigation also provided an opportunity to scrutinize the interdependence of these two systems.
**Warsaw FFA Fruit Sales Begins**
By Haley Archer, Chapter Treasurer
It’s that time of year again. The Warsaw FFA is selling a variety of delicious and healthy fruit along with a variety of cheeses and sausages. The fruit is shipped straight to us by means of Blue Freedom Fresh Fruit Company, so freshness and quality is always guaranteed. It does not matter what kind of fruit you like because we have everything from apples, pears, oranges, pineapples, and grapefruit along with sampler and gift boxes in varying quantities.
The proceeds of the fundraiser will provide opportunities for FFA members to attend trips to Indianapolis, Indiana for the National FFA Convention, and West Lafayette, Indiana for the State FFA Convention. It will also provide for such FFA career and leadership development (CDEs/ LDEs) events such as crops evaluation, forestry evaluation, and entomology evaluation, welding, livestock skill-a-thon evaluation, parliamentary procedure, demonstrations, public speaking, community service projects, along with FFA Week Activities.
Fruit sales began on Wednesday, October 7th and will continue to Wednesday, November 11th. An FFA member will deliver the fruit to your door during the week of December 7th, just in time for Christmas. For additional information or to order your fruit, contact any Warsaw FFA member or Warsaw Community HS Ag Dept. at (574) 371-5099 ext. 2353.

The Warsaw FFA Chapter had nine members compete in the state Horticulture CDE contest. In a typical year, these students would have traveled down to West Lafayette, Indiana to complete this contest. This year the members completed the contest on a virtual platform. The Horticulture CDE teaches members various skills dealing with horticulture and the landscape industry. Members identified ornamental plants, flowers, indoor houseplant, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. They also took a knowledge exam.
The team consisting of Dakotah Easterday, Cadence Gibson, Lilly Haywood and Breanna Thompson placed 8th. The team of Brittany Duncan, Gentry Hall, Jazmyn Taylor and Thomas Boggs placed 24th. Regann Finch competed in this contest as an individual. There were a total of 43 teams who competed in this state contest. Dakotah Easterday was the top judger for this event!

On Monday, October 19th, 60+ Adult Roles & Responsibility students in Mrs. Lancaster's classes took part in our Community Led Interviews. This year it was mostly virtual with the exception of some teachers, counselors and administrators that were able to assist in person. Students set up google calendar invites to the community leaders and through google meet conducted live interviews! To prepare for interviews, students practiced introductions, tying neckties and mock interviews with each other trading roles of interviewer and interviewees.
